Citrix Training in September

In September, Entré Computer Solutions will be offering a Citrix XenServer Enterprise Edition training course. In this course, students will be educated on deploying and managing XenServer Enterprise Edition and XenCenter.

Through hands-on labs, students will gain experience in:

Installing and configuring a virtual server and connecting to the server with XenCenter
Creating a mix of Windows and Linux virtual machines and managing virtual machine life-cycle operations
Creating a XenServer resource pool and connecting to remote storage

The exercises in this course will allow students to explore advanced XenServer capabilities such as XenMotion and automatic virtual machine placement.

Our new NetSentry service encompasses a proactive review of your network’s health. This on-site visit by one of our skilled network technicians to monitor your network’s vital statistics, including, tape backup and a test restore, virus protection updates, and UPS battery backup.

Additionally this month we are now able to provide offsite backup to meet security and data requirements. Your backups can be restored by Web, FTP as well as with Windows software.

Microsoft SharePoint 2010

Recently Microsoft announced some information about the upcoming version of their popular collaboration software, SharePoint 2010 (MOSS 2010). It’s definitely exciting to see what is in store for the next version of SharePoint. One thing that is going to need major consideration is system planning. One piece of information that Microsoft has divulged is the system requirements which are a major increase since the last version.
Here’s what we know so far…

SharePoint Server 2010 will require 64-bit Windows Server 2008 or 64-bit Windows Server 2008 R2.
SharePoint Server 2010 will require 64-bit SQL Server 2008 or 64-bit SQL Server 2005.

Yes, that’s right. There will be no 32 bit support in SharePoint 2010. Why? Microsoft firmly backs 64-bit due to its expandability and performance increases. If you are running SharePoint 2007, then you know what they mean. A lot of this requirement was based on real world experiences from MOSS 2007 customers. It should be noted that according to Microsoft, 64 bit is a best practice recommendation for MOSS 2007.

What can I do to get ready?

1. The major thing you can do is make sure your server hardware is 64-bit compatible. Be sure to check this when ordering new hardware as well.

2. Upgrade any users who are still using Internet Explorer 6. There will be much limited support for IE 6 users. MOSS 2010 will have improved support for Firefox 3.x and Safari 3.x.

3. Run the system upgrade checker to see any potential issues.

4. Stay up to date on any new details. We expect MOSS 2010 to be released this year, but right now have limited details as to when. The official blog contains the most updated information.
