Sharing or Clearing customizations done in Word

The question came up about "resetting" a machine after a student uses it ...

There are two files that almost all customizations are stored in: Normal.dotx, and Building Blocks.dotx.

SHARING
One of the nice enhancements in Word 2007, is that this sort of customization is now easier to share, or distribute, throughout an office environment. Say, one person, the "guru", sets up a bunch of AutoCorrect (and/or AutoText content, or Building Blocks) to allow instant insertion into a document; like the company logo, or disclaimer text, or a footer with the filename-path, etc. All that needs to be done to share these items is to copy the Building Blocks.dotx file to each person's machine (into the correct folder). By the way, this similar idea has always been (and still is) true of templates, which remain a vastly under-used feature of Word.

CLEARING
All one would need to do to clear virtually all customizations, is to delete the normal.dot (or normal.dotx) file (and the Building Blocks.dotx file). Upon the next startup, Word will rebuild a "factory" version of the normal.dotx file.
